The NVIDIA Quadro K5000 for Mac 4GB GDDR5 Graphics card by PNY is a top-of-the-line professional graphics card for older Mac towers. It is not recommended for gaming but it works exceptionally well for 3D applications such as Maya and Cinema 4D. It is also ideal for rendering RAW files in Lightroom and gaming visual effects in After Effects. It significantly speeds up 3D use in After Effects. The card can support up to four displays and can handle 4K at 60 fps via DisplayPort. The CUDA engine is well suited for users of Adobe Premiere as well. Customer support by PNY for the Quadro card is responsive and helpful. The card comes with some drawbacks. It is expensive and not ideal for entertainment purposes such as gaming. It also has quirks such as the fact that it can hardly detect monitors and when it does, it pulls it off sketchily, and the display port instead of mini display port. It is also not possible to transfer sound through HDMI despite having lower-priced ATI Mac cards that pull this off well.
