August Smart Lock 2nd generation has mixed reviews from customers. It comes with the option of purchasing August Connect which is supposed to facilitate monitoring from afar, although this device seems to be unreliable. The app works with Android and iPhone versions but Android's version has poor reviews due to features like Auto Unlock that do not work. The HomeKit edition makes this lock a part of Apple's smart home platform and allows its control by virtual assistant Siri. If there is no battery, the outside of the deadbolt still operates the same so the key is the only solution. Although remote access suffered some issues with iOS 10 and Apple TV, August is working on a new update for it. It cannot unlock the door when requested through Alexa but it can be locked. The lock is specifically designed for deadbolts, not for regular ones.
